Notes:

-I tried to make the translations as literal as possible, but certain liberties were taken in order to make some of the dialogue sound more natural. And there are a few parts I did not know how to translate, so I guessed at the meaning. Those parts are marked with an (*). Just keep in mind these are far from 100% correct or perfect. If you see a translation mistake, please let me know.

-The following should be read with manga in hand. These are only the dialogue. There are no mentions of scene changes, nor what the characters are actually doing. So you may be confused if you don't have the manga in front of you.

Azure Chapter 6 - Upon A White Horse

[57]

Motomiya Shrine

Nachi (aka Wakadanna): Look at that, soldiers everywhere.
Nachi: It's impossible to escape so many eyes.
Nachi: You better wait here for a bit.

[58]

Nachi: Oye! Hijiri!
Nachi: Hi-chan!
Hijiri: Na-chan!
Hijiri: What have you been up to?!
Hijiri: The Emperor's soldiers are everywhere!
Nachi: Well, you better come here.
Nachi: Guess what? I guided the legendary Tatara through the mountains...
Tatara: I'm Tatara.

[59]

Hijiri: This girl?!
Nachi: Dumbass! Are you blind?!
Hijiri: No.
Nachi: You sure?!
Nachi: Girls are more like this - they make you want to mooch mooch.*
Nachi: Pretty.*
Hijiri: I'll leave you to your stupidity.
Hijiri: This way please.
Hijiri: You can hide here. Since outsiders rarely come, you should rest easy.
Hijiri: We're a local youth organization that acts as guards to the Shrine. We have some 30 members and we call ourselves the Tengu (Hounds of Heaven).
Hijiri: I'm the leader, Hijiri.
Nachi: And I'm the associate leader, Nachi.

[60]

Tatara: Tengu?
Nachi: It's a creature with a face like this and a nose thiiiis long.
Hijiri: That's not a Tengu, so shut up.
Hijiri: It's an age-old local superstition. As an obligation to the Emperor, the older generation keep perserving it.
Hijiri: The younger folks put up with it, since there's really no reason to oppose it.
Nachi: It's good for trade too. Attracts a whole bunch of money lenders and timber merchants.*
Asagi: I think it sounds stupid.
Tatara: Asagi!
Nachi: So what?! We're the Tengu.
Nachi: I think it's a kickass name.* You got a better one?!
Nachi: What would you come up with? The "Whales"? Who calls themselves that?*
Nachi: Would the "Whales" be better?
Nachi: Huh? Huh?
Hijiri: Well, that's the story behind our name.
Hijiri: It came about the same way the name "Tatara" came to be associated with the rebellious movement.

[61]

Tatara: They're such self-confident and lively people. I like them.*
Tatara:
To believe in myself, that is the only thing I can do.*
Tatara:
I feel like...I can trust them.
Tatara: Would you...hear what I have to say?
Tatara: The truth is, I'm going to rescue my mother...
Hijiri: Hmm.
Nachi: Well! What 'cha think? Yes or no? Should we help 'em?*
Hijiri: Hmm.
Nachi: Hey! You don't need to think about this!*
Hijiri: Well...
Tatara: What is it?

[62]

Hijiri: You see...
Hijiri: It's good that you're going to rescue your mother.
Hijiri: But are you willing to fight only for her sake?
Tatara: Of course not!
Tatara: I want to topple General Khazan!
Tatara: To weaken the Red King's power.
Tatara: When that happens, surely...
Tatara: ...I will be able to overthrow the Red King.

[63]

Hijiri: That's it?
Hijiri: After your personal little crusade is over, would that be the end?
Tatara: No!
Tatara: After that...
Hijiri: After that?
Tatara: I'm going to overthrow the Emperor!
Tatara: And establish a brand new country!

[64]

Tatara: Ah...
Hijiri: Now I understand.

[65]

Hijiri: If you mean what you said, we'll be happy to cooperate.
Nachi: Hi-chan, what was all that about...
Hijiri: Naturally,
Hijiri: ...before we go risk our lives, I want to know our true objective.*
Tengu member 1: That's the way to do it.
Tengu member 2: He's our leader alright.
Tengu member 3: I've got no objections.
Tatara:
The color in everyone's eyes has changed.
Tatara:
Our objective.

[66]

Hijiri: Na-chan, get the map.
Hijiri: This is all top secret.*
Nachi: The Emperor's party will stay overnight at Motomiya after worshipping at the Shrine. Here are their hotels.
Nachi: The Red Army will probably stay at this temple over here.
Hayato: Why are they separated from the rest of the party?
Kaku-jii: All the more convenient for us.
Nachi: It's because the color red is associated with blood.
Nachi: Blood is considered impure and vile, that's the reason.
Hijiri: Even if they're isolated, the Red Army has some 500-600 men.*
Hijiri: Do you intend to attack so many people? What weapons do you have?
Tatara: I have more comrades back at my ship. There are 100 men or so.
Hijiri: Really? Someone should go get them then.

[67]

Hijiri: Here are some paper so you can write them a note.
Tatara: Umm... Is there a way here that can be traversed by horse.
Nagi...
Hijiri: Of course there is.
Hijiri: It'll be fine if you have someone who can't travel by foot. Nowadays, people can get here in comfort and speed.
Tengu member: Alright! I'll be back tomorrow night.
Other Tengu members: Take care!
Tatara:
I'll feel more secure when Nagi gets here.
Tatara: We have to surround the Temple somehow.
Tatara: Let's form a small party to survey the area beforehand.
Asagi: Are you there, Ranmaru?
Shadow figure: Yes.
Asagi: Go.

[68]

Hijiri: Alright! You guys should drink up today!
Tengu members: And relax with a nice long bath!
Woman: Hijiri! Is that useless son of mine in here?
Nachi: Ma!
Woman: Nachi! Why are you still going down to the sea to play fisherman?!
Woman: You have to start following in your father's footsteps as the Head Shrine Priest.
Woman: You haven't done a bit of studying!
Nachi: Ah! Let go!*
Voices: HAHAHAH...
Tatara:
Mother...

Khazan: We've come so far already...
Khazan: It's just a short walk from here to Motomiya, Kumano.
Khazan: You're probably tired from all the trekking.
Chigusa: It's a lot better than being locked up.
Cha-Cha: Zaki.
Khazan: It is pleasant...
Khazan: ...to go on a trip.
Khazan: If we are able to come this far,
Khazan: ...the Red King probably isn't looking for us.
Khazan: I bet he's too distracted right now, dealing with some village...

[70]

Chigusa: It's my chance to escape!
Cha-Cha: Zaki! The General just left her.
Zaki: Wait, Cha-Cha.
Chigusa:
This man...sheltered me...sheltered me from the Red King, who probably wants to kill me.
Chigusa:
Where does that leave my revenge...?

[71]

Chigusa: Why? Why does he have to be kind to me?
Chigusa:
Any man who can kill my son with that cruel Ichita sword cannot be a good person!
Chigusa:
It would have been easier to hate him if he was a demon...!
Chigusa: I can't leave you,
Chigusa: ...until I have witnessed your last moment.

[72]

Khazan: Then,
Khazan: ...we'll probably be together for 2-3 more days.
Khazan: There's supposed to be a "fountain of youth" that we can drink from somewhere around here. Want to go?
Zaki: She was able to escape...
Cha-Cha: Zaki!
Cha-Cha: Zaki...
Cha-Cha: I can't tell him.
Cha-Cha: I can't tell Tatara.

[73]

Zaki: Cha-Cha... Are you crying?
Cha-Cha:
Tatara...this will be so hard on you.*
Cha-Cha: Zaki...
Zaki: Uh?
Cha-Cha: No matter what, I'm going to protect that child.
Cha-Cha:
Tatara...

[74]

Tengu member: It'll get easier from here on, so...
Tengu member: ...do your best.
Traveling group: Aye, this is our first time on a mountain road.
Traveling group: It's so hot.
Tengu member: Here we go...

[75]

Hayato: Tatara, let's go to a hotspring!
Hayato: There're lots of hot water at the Yunomine hotspring!
Tatara: Ah, sorry. Kaku-jii and I just got back from it.
Hayato: Already?! I wanted us to go together!
Kaku-jii: It's because Tatara has a blue mark* on his hip, and he doesn't want anyone to see it.
Tatara: Kaku-jii!
Hayato: Wakadanna, where's Miki today?
Nachi: That kid is a shrine maiden, so she's at the Temple.
Nachi: Out of Miki's mouth comes the divine message of God.
Tatara:
Everyone is in such good spirits... But I feel so uneasy, it's unbearable...
Hijiri: Tatara, come here.
Hijiri: Something strange is going on.
Hijiri: Your friends still haven't arrived yet,
Hijiri: ...even though I sent someone to look for them at the base of the mountain. The guy who is supposed to guide them can't be found either.

[76]

Tatara: Nagi...!
Tatara: What happened?
Hijiri: I don't know. They shouldn't have lost their way. What could it be? A minor accident perhaps?
Hijiri: If they don't get here by the time the Emperor's party arrives,
Hijiri: ...this whole plan would be useless. We simply don't have enough man-power.
Traveling group: Oye. Where are we?
Traveling group: Where did the guide go off to?
Traveling group: Should we light a beacon? That's no good, the Emperor's soldiers might spot us!
Man: Nagi-sama, what should we do?

[77]

Nachi: Hi-chan! It's the Emperor's procession!
Hijiri: They're here?!
Bystander: Woo, he comes on a palanquin.
Bystander: He's not going to get any divine favor if he's doesn't come to the Shrine on foot and do penance like everyone else.
Bystander: When someone dies in your family, you must go and make offerings, for your own sake.*
Bystander: What's with this recent Miyuki* and his concubines' cheap prayers?*
Bystander: They cause so much ruckus on the village road.
Bystander: What a selfish Emperor.
Bystander: Well, what can you do?*

[79]

Hayato: What a giant procession! There must be more than a 1,000 people.
Tatara: Ah, at the very back! It's the Red Army!
Tatara: There! See! It's General Khazan.
Tatara: I can't...see my mother.
Voice: Don't worry.
Voice: Everything will come together perfectly.

[80]

Voices: Cha-Cha!
Cha-Cha: Hi.
Voices: Welcome back!
Nachi: Wow, what a babe!*
Hijiri: Stop that.
Tatara: Welcome back.
Cha-Cha: Yep. How's everyone?
Tatara: That's...
Cha-Cha: Eh?
Tatara: I didn't mean to abandon them, but...*
Hijiri: Together, we total 50 people. But we would have to fight against 10 times that many.
Hijiri: It's too reckless an operation.
Tatara:
I won't get another chance like this in a thousand years...
Nachi: Why don't we poison their dinner?
Hijiri: Stupid! What if Tatara's mother eats it?!
Asagi: Then what about a sleeping draught?

[81]

Asagi: I...
Asagi: ...have some sleeping draught.
Tatara: Asagi...
Nachi: Hey, you can be nice!
Asagi:
You're filthy.
Asagi: I don't have much left, so its effect may be slow.
Asagi: It is supposed to work immediately, but we won't know for sure until we use it.*
Man: Go get some chicken from over there so we can try it out.
Tatara: Asagi... Thank you.
Asagi: ...
Asagi: My pleasure.

[82]

Rebel: The Red Army just finished their worship and they're heading back to the hotel.
Cha-Cha: Great. We're all finished here.
Servant: General, dinner is ready.
Khazan: Mm.

[83]

Khazan: Who's there?!
Khazan: A secret message...?

[84]

Rebel: Finally. They sure sound festive in there.*
Rebel: We don't know if they're even taking the drug.
Cha-Cha: Don't worry. They'll eat like idiots.
Tatara: Cha-Cha, thank you for your work.
Hijiri: When it becomes dead quiet in the middle of the night, Tatara's team will enter from the front gate, and Nachi's team will enter from the back gate.
Hijiri: My team will stand by right here.
Hijiri: Before the battle begins,
Hijiri: ...everyone should take a leaf from this tree.
Hijiri: This is a Nagi tree. It's a charm for good luck.
Tatara: A Nagi tree?!
Hijiri: It's anicent. This giant tree has been in Shingu* for over 1,000 years. People consider it a holy tree.
Hijiri: It's quite something.*

[85]

Hijiri: The Nagi tree is said to bring calmness. It has blessed many a sea voyages since ancient times.
Hijiri: Upon coming to Kumano, it's standard practice to visit this tree. It's been a local talisman.
Tatara:
Nagi... Nagi...
Hijiri: Since long ago, when the times began to change,
Hijiri: ...after Kumano decided to withdraw from the rest of the world.*

[86]

Hijiri: Tatara, I will help you.
Hijiri: Nachi has already stamped you with his seal of approval.
Hijiri: It's because he saw what you did in those mountains.
Nachi:
Miki will stay here, okay.*
Miki:
Okay.
Hijiri: If you can survive,
Hijiri: ...and pull this off,
Hijiri: ...upon my word, Kumano will become your ally.
Tatara: Alright...!
Kaku-jii: Tatara, concentrate on fighting Khazan.
Kaku-jii: Leave your mother's rescue to me.
Tatara:
Kaku-jii... Everybody...

[87]

Tatara: Let's go!
Hayato: It sure is quiet.
Hayato: The coast looks clear.
Hayato: I guess we can talk now.*
Tatara: Shhh. Hayato.
Shouta: The General has many rooms.*
Shouta: I think this room is at the very back.
Noise: dokun dokun... (footsteps)

[88]

Noise: dokun dokun... (footsteps)

[89]

Tatara: He's here.
Tatara:
General Khazan.
Tatara:
My brother's enemy...!

[90]

Noise: fufufu... (footsteps)
Voice: You finally came, Tatara.
Voice: It hasn't been long.

[91]

Voice: I'll be brief.*
Voice: I knew you drugged our dinner, so we didn't eat it.
Voice: Everyone threw away their food!

[92]

Khazan: You'll make a good souvenir.
Khazan: When your head is presented to the Red King, I will be forgiven!*
Chigusa:
Tatara...?!
Chigusa:
Tatara!
Chigusa: Tatara!

[93]

Chigusa: Tatara! Get away from here!
Tengu member: Hijiri, what's all that noise?
Hijiri: I wonder.
Miki: Hijiri...
Hijiri: What is it Miki? Are you sleepy?
Miki: He's coming...
Miki: ...riding upon a white horse. A vile man.
Tengu member: Horse? Where?
Tengu member: Was that a message of God?
Hijiri: A white horse...
Hijiri: Long ago, the people here called waves "white horses"...
Hijiri: Something's coming from the sea?!

[94]

Miki: A man,
Miki:
...as vile as red blood, is coming.

[95]

Voice: Your Highness, we've entered the Kumano Bay.*
Shuri: Good! Our target is Khazan!
Shuri: I'll get him even if I have to burn down the mountains of Kumano.

[96]

Chigusa: Tatara! Tatara! Tatara!
Chigusa:
Sarasa!
Tatara: Mother!
