Azure Chapter 3 - Crisis

[95]

Tatara: My mother has been captured by General Khazan...?!

[96]

Tatara: General Khazan... the same man who beheaded my brother...
Asagi: Until recently, we (the Blue Army) have been fighting the Red King.
Asagi: So any intelligence I've gathered on the Red Army should be quite reliable.
Asagi: Are you worried?
Asagi: It's such a sad fate for a beautiful woman.* (Referring to Tatara's mother)

[97]

Asagi: But, this is a personal problem, isn't it?
Asagi: I'm sorry, I shouldn't have told you.
Tatara:
Everybody's heart is set on going North right now.
Tatara:
As a leader, I can't tell them to go West just for personal reasons.
Pirate: So we're sailing northeast tomorrow to fight the Black King, huh?
Pirate: Have you stocked enough water?
Pirate: Gotta hurry and make more armor.
Pirate: I wonder if the North is nice...
Pirate: It's nice if you like cold places.
Pirate: So it's cold?
Pirate: Supposedly, it snows a lot over there.
Pirate: Stop hogging the food.
Cha-Cha: Tatara.

[98]

Cha-Cha: What is it? You're pale as a ghost.
Zaki: So it seems.
Tatara: Ah...nothing. Where's Nagi and Kaku-jii?
Cha-Cha: They're on land.
Tatara: Thanks. See you guys tomorrow. And go easy on the booze.
Cha-Cha: I wonder what's bothering him?
Hayato: How come Tatara never asks for me when he wants to talk? It sucks.
Zaki:
Is Hayato jealous?
Cha-Cha: Yeah... I guess he's only close to Nagi and Kaku-jii.*
Zaki: Cha-Cha, the guy can't help it.
Cha-Cha: But why? He looks so lonely...

[99]

Tatara: Mother!
Tatara:
To be with such a demon... such a beastly general.

[100]

Tatara: I'm so sorry Mother.
Tatara:
While I was enjoying myself with Shuri, you were...
Tatara: Oh, I'm so so sorry...
Tatara:
I've been wrong.
Tatara:
I didn't see straight.
Tatara:
Now I know.
Tatara:
If you're still alive...
Nagi: There, just don't move your arm for a while. Next please.
Tatara:
Nagi... Nagi...

[101]

Kaku-jii: Heave-ho. Heave-ho.
Worker: Great. The rubbles have almost been cleared.
Worker: Thanks for all the help you've given us.
Tatara:
Kaku-jii.
Kaku-jii: I just thought you guys would like some company, that's all.
Tatara:
Kaku-jii.
Tatara:
It's no good. I'm still behaving like a child!
Tatara:
Everyone else is doing their part.

[102]

Tatara: But I'm no help at all!
Ageha: Ah, Tatara.
Ageha: We're going to perform. Want to come see? You'll get a good seat.
Tatara: Ageha...
Ageha: Call me Kicho ^_^
Ageha: Is your ship leaving tomorrow? For the North?
Tatara: Yes.
Tatara: Ageha... Have you heard...
Tatara: ...whether the Red Army has captured any of my relatives?
Ageha: No... Relatives? Who?
Tatara: Ah, no one. Never mind.

[103]

Ageha: So, you're keeping things to yourself.
Ageha: Sometimes, that's the wrong thing to do.
Ageha: Especially when you have friends.
Ageha: Friends are supposed to go through thick and thin, together.
Ageha: Now, it's getting cold.
Ageha: I can tell just by looking at your face.
Tatara:
But Ageha... This doesn't concern anybody else.

[104]

Tatara: I have to go by myself. To see if it's true. And then...
Tatara:
If it's true, I'll rescue you, Mother.
Tatara:
So please, stay alive.

[105]

Asagi: Can I go too? I can help.
Tatara: You should just get off this ship!
Asagi: So heartless.
Asagi: I think I'll yell out:
Asagi: EVERYBODY! IT'S TATARA...
Asagi: TATARA'S LEAVING ALL BY HIMSELF!
Asagi: HE'S PACKED ALREADY!
Tatara: What are you doing?!
Cha-Cha: Tatara?
Asagi: HE'S SNEAKING OFF!
Hayato: What?
Pirates: What is it? What?

[106]

Cha-Cha: We're leaving tomorrow. Where are you going?
Tatara: Ah... Just going out for a little bit. I'll come right back and meet up with you guys later.
Cha-Cha: You should have told us first!
Cha-Cha: How can a leader leave his ship without a word?*

[107]

Hayato: We're practically family and you won't tell us anything.
Tatara: Hayato?!
Cha-Cha: It's not just that. You already went to Kanto by yourself. And now, you're going off alone again?!
Cha-Cha: Well, I guess you don't need me!
Tatara: Cha-Cha! I never said that!
Cha-Cha: It's the same thing.
Cha-Cha: When you went off to Kanto by yourself, all I could do was worry about you.
Cha-Cha: I wanted to help you, to fight alongside with you.
Cha-Cha: So you don't have to bear all the burden alone.
Cha-Cha: Why won't you let me?!

[108]

Zaki: Cha-Cha.
Cha-Cha: No Zaki! I'm not ashamed to say this.
Zaki: Tatara, it's not just Cha-Cha.
Zaki: We all want to fight with you, together.
Pirates: We were all pirates.
Pirates: But we're not like that anymore.
Pirates: The people of Suzaku are all grateful that you released them from the control of the Shojo Family. You freed them.
Cha-Cha: You gave me a new pride.
Cha-Cha: I'm proud...
Cha-Cha: ...to finally stand up to this country's tyrants.

[109]

Pirates: Let's fight together.
Pirates: To change the country.
Pirates: It's been our dream!
Pirates: That's right!
Pirates: Come on, Tatara!
Tatara:
Cha-Cha... thank you.
Tatara:
But, you don't know about my mother. I can't tell you I have to go West.
Cha-Cha: Tatara, do you still want to go? At all costs?!
Tatara: Yes.
Cha-Cha: So that's that.
Cha-Cha: I'm useless to you afterall.

[110]

Cha-Cha: How dare you make a fool of me?!
Zaki: Cha-Cha!

[111]

Cha-Cha: Well, draw your sword!
Cha-Cha: You can leave after you've beaten me.
Pirates: Stop it, Cha-Cha.
Asagi:
What an unruly bunch. They're out of control.
Asagi:
I guess I've got to step in and do something.

[112]

Nagi: Yes, open your mouth.
Nagi: Try to make a sound. Yes, that's good.

[113]

Raizou: Dr. Nagi, how is Izumi's throat?

(Izumi is Raizou's wife. She was one of the women the Snake King "silenced," which means her vocal cords were destroyed and she's mute.)

Nagi: Well, it's difficult to say.
Nagi: Given the proper equipment, and the right doctor...

[114]

Nagi: ...from Kyoto or overseas, I think an operation is possible.
Raizou: Really?!
Raizou: Izumi... I just might be able to hear your voice again!
Raizou: You must be tired, thank you very much.
Nagi: It was nothing.
Ageha: Raizou-chan, was that Nagi just now?
Raizou: Oh, Ageha. Hurray!!
Ageha: WHA!

[115]

Raizou: Sorry, I couldn't control my strength.
Ageha: You almost snapped my slender figure.
Raizou: Sorry, sorry.
Ageha: But, this is good news.
Ageha: Being an Izumi fan, I'm happy for you.
Raizou: Oh, that's right. Despite being a renown beauty, you're still a guy.
Ageha: What about it?
Raizou: You just don't eat like a guy.*
Raizou: You've already cooperated with the Rebel Army.
Raizou: And you're a close friend of Tatara's. Yet...
Raizou: ...you're also a close friend of Asagi's. He confides in you.
Raizou: Why did he come to Tatara? Did he tell you?
Ageha: Of course he did.

[116]

Ageha: We talk quite frequently.
Raizou: Then...
Ageha: I'm a free man, and Asagi's a wretched (pitiful/unfortunate) kid.
Ageha: I'm doing him a favor, even though it may hurt Tatara.
Raizou: But aren't you Tatara's friend?
Raizou: Doesn't Tatara deserve your pity as well?
Ageha: Perhaps.
Ageha: Well, see you later. We've got 2-3 more days of performances. Come see us sometimes.
Raizou: Ageha...
Raizou: Are you still searching for "the woman worth risking you life for?"

[117]

Ageha: Stop worrying about that.
Raizou: ...I see. You'd still rather be gay.
Ageha:
But...

[118]

Ageha: ...who am I searching for?
Ageha: Oh, a shooting star. I wonder who died.
Raizou: A shooting star... bearing good luck...
Raizou:
Should I be feeling uneasy when everything's going so well...
Raizou:
When Asagi first came to this place, he was just a little kid.
Raizou:
But the Blue King held a Coming-of-Age Ceremony for him anyway.
Raizou:
He wasn't precocious, just a nice quiet kid.

[119]

Raizou: But before I knew it, the King had isolated him as his most valuable advisor. He stopped listening to anyone else.
Raizou:
He only wanted Asagi by his side.
Raizou:
One could say Asagi made the King the way he was.
Raizou:
Can it be that he's trying to do the same thing to Tatara?!
Raizou:
No, Tatara's among good company.
Raizou:
I don't think he can go wrong...

[120]

Raizou: He'll be fine...
Cha-Cha: Well, en garde!
Tatara: No! I won't fight you, Cha-Cha.
Cha-Cha: I'm dead serious. Get ready!

[121]

Tatara: Asagi?!

[122]

Kaku-jii: What's all this noise?
Tatara: Nagi!
Asagi: Everyone... Tatara's trying to go save his mother.
Pirate: His mother? I thought she died...
Tatara: Asagi! Shut up!
Asagi: General Khazan of the Red Army captured her. She's at the city of Suou right now.
Asagi: I know all about it.
Cha-Cha: Tatara...

[123]

Cha-Cha: Why didn't you tell me?!
Tatara: Because that would trouble everyone...
Cha-Cha: What trouble?!
Cha-Cha: You still don't get it, do you?!
Cha-Cha: You still don't trust us!
Tatara: Cha-Cha...
Cha-Cha: You don't understand anything.
Asagi: That's right. Tatara doesn't understand.
Asagi: General Khazan isn't just another soldier. He's an advisor to the Red King.
Asagi: To rescue Tatara's mother is to fight the General, the Red King's right-hand man.

[124]

Cha-Cha: I see. That's right.
Cha-Cha: Anybody got a problem with this?!
Pirates: No Boss!
Pirates: Let's go west!
Pirates: West!
Pirates: Down with General Khazan! Bring back Tatara's mother!
Pirates: Let's show the Red King a thing or two!
Hayato: Tha... that's great Tatara.
Hayato: You're mother's still alive.
Tatara: Hayato.
Nagi: Tatara, let's bring him inside.
Nagi: It's not a deep cut, but he's lost some blood.

[125]

Tatara: You're the one who instigated all this, and now you've risked your life to stop it...
Tatara: What were you thinking?
Asagi: The same thing as Tatara.
Tatara: Uh?
Asagi: To bring down the Red King.
Asagi: I was the one who first suggested for the Blue King to ally with Tatara.
Tatara: Why?!
Asagi: Because I hate the Red King.
Tatara: ...?
Pirates: Don't talk.
Pirate: That guy's tougher than he looks.
Pirate: Um.
Nagi: We'll let you have some peace and quiet.

[126]

Asagi: This is great.
Asagi:
Tatara and the Red King may become too powerful when they're left alone.
Asagi:
This rescue mission is the best way to reduce their forces and get rid of the commanders on both sides.
Asagi:
The two generals seem evenly matched. Tatara's right-hand man is that pirate woman...
Asagi:
She'll play right into my plan.
Asagi:
And Tatara's mother is the perfect bait.
Ranmaru: Are you alright, Lord Asagi?
Asagi: Ranmaru?
Ranmaru: I'm leaving for my reconnaissance along route.
Ranmaru: Can you drop by one of the harbors for my report.
Asagi: Fine, meet me at Ise.
Asagi: Then go west and contact Ume.

[127]

Old Fortune Teller: As I see it... The West bears an ill-omen for you.
Cha-Cha: You're still using water to do fortune telling? How accurate are you?
Old Fortune Teller: Well, I'm no pro like Nagi-sama.
Old Fortune Teller: Unlike the North, a forest of evil spirits awaits you in the West.
Cha-Cha: But the West is all desert.
Old Fortune Teller: No, there will be forests. And Tatara is cursed.
Old Fortune Teller: In order to counter the curse,
Old Fortune Teller: ...one of you will lose your life.
Cha-Cha: ...Don't scare us. We don't want any of that.

[128]

Zaki: Even if the fortune is true, you should rest easy.
Zaki: I've already decided.
Cha-Cha: Zaki...
Cha-Cha: That old lady... can't be right.
Cha-Cha:
Because, there are no forests in the West...
Voices: All aboard!

[129]

Voices: Pull up the anchor.
Voices: To the West!

The ship sailed west, traveling against the current, which slowed the progess a bit.

[130]

Narrator: Along the way, they stopped at the port of Ise to restock water.
Cha-Cha: Make sure you guys get enough water.
Sailors: Boss, look at all the shrimp we bought.
Tatara:
This is where I got off with Shuri.
Tatara:
It feels like so long ago.
Asagi: Tatara, hey Tatara!
Cha-Cha: That guy sure nuzzled up to Tatara quick.
Hayato: Well, he did tell Tatara about his mother.
Hayato: What's with that look?
Cha-Cha: You're just jealous.
Asagi: I found out some things in town.
Asagi: The Emperor is going to Kumano.
Tatara: Kumano?

[131]

Asagi: A funeral ceremony will be held for the Blue King in Kyoto, and then his ashes will be laid to rest in Koyasan.

(Koyasan is a mountain somewhere between Kyoto and Kumano.)

Asagi: Afterwards, royalty, aristocrats, and all influential persons will be going to Kumano to pray for the prosperity of this country.
Asagi: The journey will take approximately 1 month.
Tatara: So Kumano has a Buddhist Temple?
Asagi: ...
Asagi: Has it occurred to you that the Black King and Red King will probably attend?
Tatara: The Red King's going?!
Asagi: He probably won't go in person, but he will send a representative.
Asagi: Odds are he'll send General Khazan.
Asagi: It'll be the perfect chance for us to get him.
Asagi: So do you want to go to Kumano? We have a month.
Asagi: It's enough time for us to go to Suou and find out who's going.

[132]

Cha-Cha: Well, Tatara? Do we look like merchants?
Tatara: Cha-Cha, you're only going to check the place out...
Cha-Cha: Ah, but a girl can move about better this way.
Zaki: Cha-Cha loves to dress up.
Zaki: She lives for it.
Tatara: Zaki...
Tatara: Well... thank you for doing this for me.
Cha-Cha: No problem!
Tatara: We'll sail the ship towards Kumano and wait for your message out at sea.
Cha-Cha: OK! I'll send word through Hisha.

[133]

City of Suou - Red Palace

Khazan: We need to sent troops into Sakura Island to annihilate Tatara's army right now.
Ashou: No good, General Khazan. The army's still recovering from their battle with the Blue Army.
Khazan: Ashou! That's how you always think. You're such a coward!
Ashou: But we simply don't have the power to carry out such operation. No matter what you say!*

Letter written to Shuri:

My beloved Shuri,

When we were separated, I became so lonely.
Day and night, my thoughts are only of you.
I can't wait for you to hold me in you arms...

Love, Sarasa

Shuri: Such a passionate love letter.
Shuri: I'm blushing.

[134]

Shuri's letter:

Sarasa,

Hurry over here so we can get married.
I'm waiting for you at the Red Palace in the City of Suou.
You'll be in for a surprise when you finally see me.

Shuri: Who's there?
Servant: Ah...I'm sorry to intrude upon Your Highness.
Servant: I serve in Lord Ashou's house. My name is Umewaka.
Shuri: I can't tolerate people who sneak up behind me.
Shuri: Cut it out.
Umewaka: Ye...yes Sir.
Umewaka: I'm new here (just came from the countryside) and didn't know my way to the kitchen.
Umewaka: Please forgive me.
Shuri:
She sure doesn't look like anyone from Ashou's place.
Shuri: Who is she? I better keep an eye on that woman.

[135]

Women: I want it, I want this piece of cloth. Let me see.
Umewaka: What's going on?
Woman 1: Oh, hello Umewaka. A peddler has come bearing lots of rare imports.
Cha-Cha: Please, help yourself. Everything's very cheap.
Woman 1: Why, this will go so well with Lady Chigusa.
Cha-Cha: Lady Chigusa?
Woman 1: She's just our guest. But we think the general will soon make her our Madame.
Cha-Cha: Would the lady come take a look?
Woman 1: Well, the General is very strict...
Woman 2: Don't you think it'll be fine as long as she doesn't go outside?

[136]

Woman: Lady Chigusa, a peddler has come.
Woman: Please come to the courtyard.
